Khor community aims to race into Guinness book

QATARGAS will be sponsoring an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records when over 2,500 people will participate in a race to break the record for the most number of people running 100 meters carrying a baton in a 24-hour relay.

The event is due to start at 7:30am on Thursday at the Al Khor Community and will end at 7:30am on the following day. The current record stands at 1,848 people and was set in Singapore in March this year.
The event is being organised by the ‘Walk for Life’ club of Al Khor Community and is an initiative under the ‘Qatargas Pursuit of Safety Excellence Award’ programme which supports events aimed at the safety, health and wellbeing of Qatargas employees and families.

The club, which now has over 500 members, was established over 18 months ago to promote walking and spread awareness of the health benefits from regular walking.

The relay will be kicked off by the Al Khor International School British and Indian stream students followed by adults and other family members who will start running from 5pm on the 27th. Participation is open to all employees of Qatargas, RasGas and Al Khor International School and all residents of Al Khor Community.
Frederick Guirguis, Qatargas Head of Safety and Head of the organizing committee said: “We are all very excited about this event and look forward to setting a new world record. Our ultimate aim, however, is to promote exercise and a healthy lifestyle among the residents of the community.”

A ‘Family Day’ celebration is expected to be held following the event for the participating runners with lots of fun and games and a raffle draw.
